Our gite
This free standing cottage with its own gate and garden is suitable for max. 2 people (no pets). It is a lovely home away from home be-cause of its Tudor-style interior, com-fortable giant size bed and all the mod cons you could wish for on a holiday. The cottage looks out on the first high peaks of the Pyrenees. Its location, Belvianes-et-Cavirac, is known as the 'Gate to the Pyrenees'.
From the cottage, many walks and drives can take you to places of natural beauty liturally within minutes.
There is a seperate bedroom with two beds (kingsize 2 m by 1.80!!) which can be made up as 1 large double or 2 seperate beds. We have a bedlinen service (8 euros). There is a bathroom with a shower, a sink and a toilet, a fully equipped kitchen with everything you may need during your stay, a nice cozy living area with electric heater, tv, satelite, stereo and dvd.
There is also a seperate dining area.
Outside you will find a big terrace with garden furniture and barbecue, and the garden is in the sun all day long from sunrise to sunset.
There is a large lawned area where you can play badminton or petanque, and you have your own entrance gate and parking space!
The views from all sides are stunning. The environment invites you on lovely walks and drives.
Surrounding areaThis holiday cottage is situated on the edge of the pretty Occitan village of Belvianes-et-Cavirac with its vulcanoes, lovely walks, several medieval monu-ments and Cathar path to Quillan.
Belvianes is only 3 km from the lively pictoresque town of Quillan where you can find lots of restaurants and the Tourist Office, good supermarkets, bakeries, an excellent fishmonger and several butcheries.
While sitting on the terrace of La Palace, you can see how the Visigoth ruin dominates the village. It is worth climbing to the top for some wonderful views!
There are festivals from Spring till Autumn and every Wednesday and Saturday there is a lovely market in the town centre.
On the other side of the Pierry Lys gorge, just 10 minutes away, is a nice open air heated swimming pool in Axat (only open in Summer), where you can also get on board for a lovely train journey on the Train Touristique.
Also, at the roundabout between Axat and Belvianes you find a large tourist office, which is, however, only open in the Summer season while the one in Quillan is open almost throughout the year.
On the other side of the main road and only 300 meters from the holiday cottage, is the lovely Auberge du Chalet, a restaurant where you can have snacks, breakfast, lunch and dinners or just a drink on the terrace. Also the Templière hotel-restaurant has amazing prices and wonderful food incl. a pizzaria (also for take away). It is just down the road from the cottage (10 minutes walk).
From Belvianes you can choose from a wide range of day trips or activities, from visiting Cathar Castles, pretty villages, ancient abbeys and other sights, to wine tasting, river rafting, walking, horse riding or just relaxing in a hot Spa at Rennes-le-Bains or on one of the beaches (Puivert lake or the Mediterranean near Perpignan). As the wintersport centres are from 30 minutes to 2 hours away, Belvianes is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the outdoors in all seasons.
The Route du Vin (wine route) starts just outside the door. Belvianes is also known for the beautiful walks in the surroundings, some of them start from the cottage! With Montségur only 40 minutes away and many other castles nearby, it is a wonderful central starting point for interesting daytrips.
Around Belvianes are, spread out like the tail of a peacock: the Aude region, the Corbière, the Roussillon, the Ariège and the Pyrenees.
Also those who are interested in the Rennes-le-Chateau mystery, can find this place as well as the equally interesting Perillos nearby. As we are also interested in this mystery, we have been able to do quite a lot of research on the subject and know many of the interesting places which are connected to the Rennes-le-Chateau enigma.
We also offer guided tours to e.g. Rennes-le-Chateau and the Cathar sites.
It is well worth to visit the old town of Carcassonne, where you can stroll through medieval streets with its many shops and restaurants.
AVAILABILITY AND PRICESOur price per week varies from 395 euros per week in mid Winter to 545 euros per week in high Summer.
Our price per night is between 60 and 80 euros.
Minimum stay: 3 nights.
Not included: Cleaning (30 euros), bed linen (10 euros) - (beds are made up on arrival) - complete towel set (5 euros).

Service
We believe in service. When you arrive the fridge freezer will be working, and if it is cold, the heater will be on when you arrive. As we will be your neighbours, you can always come to us, whether for advice on day trips and sight seeing, getting the fire started, or helping with the tv/satelite or stereo. The final cleaning isn't included in the price, but we want everyone to come into a nice clean home, so the final cleaning has been made obligatory (30 euros). Bed linen is 10 euros.
You can also rent a guide to make your day trips even more interesting! From only 50 euros a day!
If you want us to do some shopping for you so you won't have to go out as soon as you arrive, just send us a list and we will get your groceries (5 euros for the service excl. groceries). You can mail us up to 1 day before arrival with your shopping list.
